We bought our house the last week of 2015. The inspector thought everything looked good around the basement and foundation. At some point in the house's history it has had 2 additions. My immediate concern is with a cold spot in the basement, that correlates with a vertical crack in the foundation. My impression moving into the house was that an aesthetic (veneer) layer had been put over the surface of the original foundation and the later addition to blend it and make it look more uniform. Unfortunately, I think this was an error and the crack I'm seeing may actually be a real crack. So, I really need to have it looked at asap. Additionally, I know I have had a couple of dribbles in the basement during heavy rains, so it wouldn't hurt to have the whole foundation looked at. Again, it has had some presumably aesthetic repairs in the past but now I'm anxious to know what the actual condition of the foundation is behind the paneling.

We have a 1930's brick house on the South Hill. The foundation is probably monolithic. It does not seem to extend under our front vestibule which is pulling off from the front of the house. There are cracks in the exterior mortar lines extended from bellow grade to the roof line on both sides of the vestibule, and interior cracks in the plaster and lath which are the same size as the exterior cracks. Hi we have a 2100 Sq ft rancher built in the 50's with a dirt crawl under a little over half of it. Also the Joyce space under the floor is not insulated for the most part.
